Last month I spent a week at Lacanau Ski club, the site is family owned and run by the Jamin family. It is located approx. 45 mins from Bordeaux airport, and less than 10 mins from Lacanau Ocean, a beautiful coastal town with an array of restaurants and surf shops, and plenty of surfers catching waves in the idyllic setting.
Lacanau is a water-sport lovers playground with numerous places to rent surf boards, kite surfing, kayaking, and an inflatable aqua park, and of course the Jamin's site for all the skiers and wake-boarders!
The school has two lakes, an onsite restaurant and a fully stocked ski sports equipment shop. They run Malibu and Ski nautique boats and coaching runs from 8.30am until late every day. During my time there I completed two sets per day. I was very fortunate to be coached by Geraldine Jamin, owner, and former European champion, and coach to World Champion Manon Costard. I can say that my skiing has massively improved after being coached by Geraldine and Anthony Delpy.
Geraldine assessed my ability and was really invested in my progress, her passion for coaching was evident and she really wanted to see me make improvements before the end of my trip. She spent a lot of time working on my technique, especially on improving my gates and getting my speed up, making me feel really comfortable running the course at 46km/h and getting me into 49km/h. On my final day I got to meet Manon Costard! Manon had just returned from competing in K1000 Marrakech Pro, and Geraldine invited me to sit in the boat while Manon skied to watch and learn from the best.
I have returned from the trip with the 'ski bug' at an ultimate peak and looking forward to put the learned techniques into action at the slalom league! I would high recommend Lacanau ski club and I am very grateful for the time and effort that Geraldine and the team invested in improving my skiing. I will definitely be making a return trip to Lacanau!
